Individual‐based modelling of hydropeaking effects on brown trout and Atlantic salmon in a regulated river

چکیده

We developed an individual-based model (IBM) to understand the effects of hydropeaking on growth, survival and distribution age 0+ 1+ juveniles for high-conservation value populations native brown trout (Salmo trutta) Atlantic salmon (S. salar) in river Gullspång, Sweden. parameterized applied inSTREAM (7.2-SD) calibrated by comparing predicted versus observed growth under current regime (n=>1,200 fish 365 days). Our objective was flow scenarios with without hydropeaking. that generally resulted modest (~10%) negative both species. Survival more affected than smaller larger fish. On-peak (high) flows less profitable feeding conditions (less growth) higher predation (lower survival). Thus, 7.2-SD appears capture ecologically-relevant behavioral patterns hydropeaking, example, habitat selection, response rapid changes. Understanding such large rivers via manipulative field studies, even if possible, would be time-consuming costly. study demonstrates potential IBMs as powerful tools testing research questions assessing prioritizing alternative management strategies regulated rivers.

Modelling approaches for relating effects of changein river flow to populations of Atlantic salmon andbrown trout

Modelling approaches for relating discharge to the biology of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., and brown trout, Salmo trutta L., growing in rivers are reviewed. Process-based and empirical models are set within a common framework of input of water flow and output of characteristics of fish, such as growth and survival, which relate directly to population dynamics. A continuum is envisaged incor...

Alternative mating strategies in Atlantic salmon and brown trout.

By screening variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) loci, multiple paternity within clutches has been found in wild populations of southern European Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta). For Atlantic salmon, we determined the relative contribution of alternative male phenotypes to the next generation. Individual males that are morphologically juvenile yet sexually matur...

on translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...

critical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

Hybridization between genetically modified Atlantic salmon and wild brown trout reveals novel ecological interactions.

Interspecific hybridization is a route for transgenes from genetically modified (GM) animals to invade wild populations, yet the ecological effects and potential risks that may emerge from such hybridization are unknown. Through experimental crosses, we demonstrate transmission of a growth hormone transgene via hybridization between a candidate for commercial aquaculture production, GM Atlantic...
